Signs Your Schlage Smart Lock Installation Is Failing
- The motor runs but the bolt doesn’t move. This is the most common failure we see in Schlage smart locks after four to six years of use in New York’s humidity swings. - The lock beeps three times and flashes red on every code entry. This is the Schlage override lockout, but if it persists after a factory reset, the position sensor inside the deadbolt housing has lost calibration and reports the bolt as jammed even when it’s free.
- The thumbturn spins freely with no resistance. The set screw on the cam has backed out, or the cam itself has cracked. Either way, the interior and exterior sides of the lock are no longer mechanically coupled. You can still operate it from the app if the motor works, but manual override is gone.

Beyond that, the motorized deadbolt contains a high-torque motor and a spring-loaded cam that can bind under hand pressure.
